How to use it
- Fill in one row per image. Keep copy identical across the sizes of one concept unless you are testing copy.
- Run the file through the copy length checker to catch copy that is likely to be truncated.
- Delete the "Placement note" column (filled template only) before you import anything.
- Import one row first, check the draft in Ads Manager, then import the rest.
How to import into Ads Manager
Meta's bulk import works on desktop with an Excel spreadsheet, and Meta lists a file limit of about 2 MB. A new import needs more columns than copy (campaign, ad set, objective, budget and targeting fields), so the most reliable route is:
- In Ads Manager on desktop, use the export and import options to download Meta's import template, or export one existing ad as a spreadsheet.
- Open that file and paste in the columns from this template: Ad Name, Body, Title, Link Description, Call to Action, Link, Display Link, URL Tags and Image. Use Meta's column headers if they differ.
- Upload your images to the ad account first, so the Image file names match.
- Import the spreadsheet, review the draft ads Ads Manager creates, then publish when you are ready.
The copy length checker
Paste your primary text, headline and description, or load your CSV. The checker counts characters as you see them and compares each field with Meta's text recommendation for each placement and the import template limit. It runs entirely in your browser.
A note on the limits
Meta publishes two kinds of numbers. The Ads Guide gives text recommendations per placement; going over usually means the text is truncated with "See more", not rejected. The import template page gives column limits for spreadsheet imports. They don't fully agree: the import page lists a 25 character Title limit, while the Ads Guide recommends 27 (Facebook Feed) and 40 (Instagram Feed) for headlines. The template and checker show both, and the safest choice is to write to the shorter number.
